Please Beware of Telephone Calls from Scammers
They come in many forms and say they’re from many different companies and sound so believable
But if you get a call from one of these please just hang up the phone
I’ve picked up a laptop from one of my customers today who as fallen for such a scam
I didn’t believe it was true when she rang me
But it’s happened and I’m fixing up her laptop so she’ll be secure again
But you’re the first line of defence and if you allow them to remote into your computer then it doesn’t matter what anti-virus you have

Also you can report any scam calls you’ve had
The government should be doing more to attempt to stop these cold callers preying on the vulnerable
If you here a gap from when you pick up the phone it’s a call centre so hang up…
If you do let them onto your computer but realise something is not right pull the plug from your router which will cut the internet connection and force them off

As widely known, the Government elected to keep the $20,000 instant tax deduction in place for one more year, and with the end of financial year approaching many businesses may take advantage of the policy.
Instead of having the asset depreciate over a number of years, small businesses are now able to write off the depreciation immediately. It means that small business are more likely to buy new equipment or technology, which can make them more efficient and help them grow.
Under the rules, the definition of a small business is one with a turnover of up to $10 million.
This means a whole new raft of businesses could take advantage of the policy — but there still are a couple of caveats you should be aware of.
What kind of assets can I get?
The type of asset you can buy needs to be a depreciating asset and it needs to be worth less than $20,000.
A depreciating asset is one used in the course of business which has a limited shelf-life and is expected to decline in value.
For example, you may buy a shiny new laptop computer for your business, but in a couple of years that laptop isn’t going to be so shiny.
Previously the depreciation of the asset played out over several years – so you got a bit of a deduction one year and another one the next year and so on.
Under the government’s scheme, you get the entire thing in one hit – which makes it much simpler.
Things that qualify include:
Office or shop furniture and fittings
Display screens, kitchen equipment, signage and air conditioners
Work vehicles
IT hardware such as desktop computers, servers and printers
Desktops Laptops Desktop Parts Laptop Parts
Plant and equipment
So if you’re thinking of upgrading your computer system, wanting a new laptop or anything computer related well nows the time to start thinking about it and maybe getting a quote

Scammers may pretend to be from a government agency or well-known company.
Their aim is to scare you into parting with your money or personal information and if you don’t, they threaten you with fines, disconnecting your internet, taking you to court, arrest or even deportation.

How to report a scam and where to get help
My advice is if in doubt trust no one
If they give you an ID number don’t trust it’s real as it’s simple to make one up
If your worried and it’s from your internet service provider Ring them to ask if it’s true or false
That goes for your bank, electric company or any other company most of them will not ring you at home out of the blue
Don’t let them win
Simple thing to do is say I don’t have a computer and hang up

Windows 10 April 2018 Update now available
The latest version of Windows 10 will be getting installed onto your computers very soon
If you want to do the upgrade yourself at a time that suits you
Go to this website
You can either install it straight to your computer or download it on to a USB stick or burn it to a DVD then install from that media
Just remember like with any other update / upgrade things can go wrong
Doing the upgrade yourself can put you in more control
Or you can just leave it alone and your computer will do the upgrade itself when the time comes
New Tips and Advice Section
I get asked so many times for help with simple things and I thought to save me going over and over with different people I thought I’d add this new section to my website so I can point people towards it and hopefully help others out also
So as I get asked for more tips on how to do this and that I’ll be adding more and more to this section

Wasn’t sure where to put this but I’ve been going through lots of health issues recently and trying to keep on working which has helped me, as so many of my customers / friends and my family have been so helpful and kind and so many nice words on my Facebook page
I have a rare condition called Dermatomyositis that can come with Cancer but today that looks to have been taken out of the equation so I’m cancer free and so happy I had to post something…
The condition I have will require me to be on lots of medication and many for life or a very long time but I feel I can now handle that so much more easily knowing that Cancer as been ruled out
Cancer runs in my side of the family so this is really big for me
I’ll be back on form and fixing computers from Friday morning when I’m allowed to drive again

Serious security flaws that could let attackers steal sensitive data, including passwords and banking information, have been found in processors designed by Intel, AMD and ARM.
The flaws, named Meltdown and Spectre, were discovered by security researchers at Google’s Project Zero in conjunction with academic and industry researchers from several countries. Combined they affect virtually every modern computer, including smartphones, tablets and PCs from all vendors and running almost any operating system.
Meltdown is “probably one of the worst CPU bugs ever found”, said Daniel Gruss, one of the researchers at Graz University of Technology who discovered the flaw.
The company advised customers to update their devices’ operating systems and only download software from “trusted sources such as the App Store”.
Google said that Android devices running the latest security updates were protected, including its own Nexus and Pixel devices, and that users of Chromebooks would have to install updates
Users can do little to avoid the security flaws apart from update their computers with the latest security fixes as soon as possible. Fixes for Linux and Windows are already available. Chromebooks updated to Chrome OS 63, which started rolling out in mid-December, are already protected.
Android devices running the latest security update, including Google’s Nexus and Pixel smartphones, are already protected. Updates are expected to be delivered soon. Users of other devices will have to wait for the updates to be pushed out by third-party manufacturers, including Samsung, Huawei and OnePlus.
An update from Apple on what is needed for its Mac computers and iOS devices is expected.
